Sometimes being early still isn't good enough

Today, as I was leaving an appointment, I had a decision to make. If I drove right to my next appointment I would get there several minutes early; however, there really wasn't that much time to do much else. I weighed my options and decided to go on to my next appointment.

It's a good thing I hadn't planned anything else along the way - all of the extra time that would have allowed for any side trips soon evaporated.

I got on the Interstate and started driving. The first few miles went fine. The traffic was moving right along. Then it happened - and it happened just after I passed the exit ramp. With the exit ramp literally along side me, but with no way to get onto it, I became part of a 6-lane parking lot - counting the 2 on-ramp lanes that were feeding into the freeway.

After a few minutes of only inching along, a fire truck came racing up the shoulder - never a good sign. Then as we all eventually moved along, I got to a point where the 4-lanes merged to 3, then to 2, and finally just to a single lane around the construction site now complicated by an accident.

Finally I got past the delay and continue on my way to my appointment. It took 27 minutes to go less than a mile. I know I could have walked it faster than this.

I pulled into the parking lot for my appointment exactly on time. So much for leaving early and wondering about what to do with all that extra time.
