Remember in all of the western movies and TV shows how the town banker (or occasionally an influencial financier) generally controls the town? He holds the mortgages, decides who gets the loans, and seems to take a special glee in foreclosing? He decides which businesses get started, which ones get an extension of credit, and which ones fail for financial reasons. In essence, he controls the flow of money in the town.
Then I consider where we are today.
Are we really that different than where we were 150 years ago?
