Week 2 Begins

Can you believe that today starts the beginning of the second week of 2011? That one week ago today was New year's Day?

Time moves very quickly. Life is not for the timid.

As we just get started in 2011 and adjust our sights on the year ahead of us, we have already moved through one week of it.

No time to panic, there are still 51 great weeks ahead of us.

So as the odomoter turns over to reveal week number 2 of 2011, what are we prepared to do that will really get our year into motion?

Only Once In Our Lifetime

Today is special, it's remarkable, it's unique. It only happens once in a lifetime - if that often.

I'm talking about today's date - 10-10-10! Quite special. The last time this happened was 1910. It will happen again in 2110. Let's celebrate on this unique lifetime event.

We can't hold onto it. it will be gone in only a few hours - replaced with 10-11 - but we got to enjoy a truly special day.

Make it a great one.

It Happens Every Decade

Every decade about this time - when the "9" year closes out, there are all types of claims for athlete of the decade, car of decade, most memorable moment, and so much else "of the decade."

Only one problem with this. The decade still has a year to go.

That's right. The 80s ran from 1981-1990, the 90s from 1991-2000, and our current decade began in 2001 and will conclude at the end of 2010.

Think about it. In the very first year AD, was it called "0" or "1"? How then can a decade end after the "9" year when it began in year "1"?

All of the accolades for the "whatever of the decade" are a year premature. It still may be appropriate to give them this honor at this time next year, but let's wait to find out.
