I don't know how many of you are NASCAR fans. It doesn't matter for the story, but that where this story comes from.
By the way, I am a fan, and I'm pulling for #48 Jimmy Johnson to win a nearly unprecedented 3rd consecutive championship. It's only been done once before by Cale Yarborough, and Jimmy has the lead with four races to go.
I digress. Goodyear is the manufacturer of the race tires used by NASCAR. Has been for 4 decades. How's that for repeat business?
Each of the tires used by a race team on race day (in a Sprint Cup race there are 43 drivers that start the race) is hand-made. Get that? Hand-made.
Each car starts with 4 tires and may go through many tire changes during the course of a 300-600 mile race. The actual tread is only about the thickness of a quarter (about 1/8").
Well, every single one of those tires comes with a sticker proclaiming who that tire was proudly manufactured by. That's right. In a time when many people are just ttrying to get by or blend in, when it's sometimes convenient to pass the buck or point fingers at someone else when something goes wrong, these tire craftsmen (and women) actually have the nerve to put their names on the tires that they build.
That is taking responsibility as well as pride in a job well done.
