Maybe it's time we did keep an eye on the small stuff

As a life philosophy, "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff" has real meaning in that we tend to worry about the little things over which we have no control or that work themselves out.

However, as Richard Weisser points out in his post today about how the little parasite (wooly agelid) is destroying the mighty forests of the Great Smokey Mountains, sometimes its the little things that will get you.

So in real estate, the reverse philosophy may apply and we really should be sweating the small stuff. A listing that is mistakenly posted with too many or too few zeros (as I pointed out in my July 12th post) or the decimal point in the wrong position can be more than embarrassing - it can have devastating consequences. A sale that is processed without all the forms being present or all the required signatures or a missed deadline can create delays and may even have far-reaching impacts.

We need to mindful of time-wasters in our business that attack us like the wooly agelids that Richard discussed, but we also need to be diligent in making sure that no detail is missed when getting a property ready to list or market and then in processing the sale. Many people are depending on the successful outcome of our transactions - buyer, seller, title company, lender, our broker, and us - not to mention potential referral business.
