Is It Asking Too Much Just To Sing The National Anthem?

Christina Aguilera's performance of the National Anthem last night at the Super Bowl was unprofessional and disappointing. There is no excuse for forgetting the words if you are a professional singer.

Whatever she was paid is too much. She should return some of the money.

I am so tired of watching and listening to nearly every singer - well-known or amateur - perform rather than sing the National Anthem. This is not the American Idol, and we don't need all the vocal trills and flourishes.

The Star Spangled Banner runs 1:23 when played by a military band - it seems longer but that's what it is. Christina managed to stretch it to 2:00. It OK to hold the note on "brave" and "free" a little, but that's it.

The NFL should know better and do a much better job of hioring and instructing their singers.
