And Here We Thought We Were Protected

All this time we thought using sunscreen was enough - turns out not. Heeding the advice of the media, family, and doctors, we have been lathering up with sunscreen for years - the higher the number the better. I'm up to 100 SPF.

Now, they tell us that typical sunscreen - regardless of its number - is only for the burning UVB rays. We need to stop UVA rays to ward off skin cancer. So, next summer, look for the words "broad spectrum" (sounds like an pesticide or fertilizer) on the label to mean that it fights cancer as well as sunburn.

The FDA (government) is also stopping words like "waterproof" and "sweatproof" on the packaging since sunscreens are neither (but we knew that). There is talk of capping the SPF at 50 even though many go much higher now.
