These 2-dimensional bar codes can convey a variety of information such as web links or ordering information for proucts and services, a smartphone with a camera is a convenient reader. However, it's nop automatic.
You need an app. For the iPhone go to the App Store and downdload "QR Reader for iPhone" for free. There are other reader apps from $0.00-1.99.
Good luck downloading and using this feature. It's great when new technology comes a long and even better when it's free to use.
The creator of the QR is not even exercising his patent rights and has essentially donated this to the public domain.
