A Great Lesson In Marketing - Walmart

Walmart is taking their fight to the street. I love it.

They are launching a nationwide TV campaign to win back shoppers who have lost confiodence in the low price pledge - with good reason. Their prices aren't always the lowest and they often creep back up after they are reduced.

I will admit that I noticed some reductions over the weekend that I didn't expect so maybe they are serious.

They are committed to matching the competition - but here's the best part. You won't need to bring in the ad. Their employees are charged with shopping the competition and knowing the marketplace. When you see an item that you know is advertised or selling for less someplace, you just say so and it's done. The checkers are supposed to know that this is true. It's now their responsibility.

Don't know the effectrive date of this - maybe it's already been implemented. Will have to try it.

I expect a learning curve here but congratulate Walmart on their bold approach. It's one thing to advertise that you have the lowest prices. It's quite another to actually mean it.

How many mattresses does the average person use?

Today I counted 5 different mattress retail stores within 2 blocks - including one that is having its grand opening in the same location as a mattress store that is no longer there. Am I missing something? Should I be buying mattresses on a more regular basis? Should I own several or keep extras on hand?

I don't know about you, but there seems to be more than enough mattress retailers to go around - and that's not counting all of the wholesale clubs and internet sales. And yet there continues to be more and more.

Should I rush right out and open one, too?
