According to the latest "Remodeling Market Index" (RMI) produced by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), the index ticked upward slightly to 41.5 in the fourth quarter of 2010, compared to 40.8 in the third quarter.
It's still below 50 so more remodelers think the market activity is below what it should be - but it is improving slightly.
The index has been running below 50 since the final quarter of 2005 - 5 full years.
Increased remodeling activity particularly was reflected in two regions - the Midwest 54.3 (from 44.9 in the third quarter) and the South 45.8 (from 42.3). The Northeast saw a decline (from 41.6 to 38.8) and the West 39.7 (down from 49.3 to 39.7).
