Thank you Jim Bunning. Too bad you're retiring. You're one of the good guys.
Jim was the deciding vote in denying a budget request to keep some 2,000 federal workers employed on transportation projects and approximately $190 million a day in reimbursements for these projects.
I'm not arguing the merits of these projects, and I know that temporary unemployment is hard, but we have to start reducing the size of government and this is a fantastic first step.
Unfortunately, this budget will be approved, and it will back to business as usual in Washington.
If these 2,000 jobs are that important and the government subsidies for road projects are that necessary, let's make a trade. You can keep those 2,000 jobs when you eliminate 2,000 others - better yet make a 2-for-1 and eliminate 4,000 DC jobs.
