As unemployment numbers continue to be very high, as inflation begins to roar (particularly with food), and as gas prices aim for a new record everyday, it's important to be be as frugal as we can with normal purchases.
We can clip coupons or watch for sales. We can know the price per ounce or other convenience unit when we are comparison shopping.
I have seen this many times, but think it is especially relevant now. Stores attempt to trick us into spending more than we need to. Ever notice that sometimes if you buy a 24-pack of something that it is more than double 2 12-packs? Then buy the 12-packs. Same thing for quarts and gallons.
The other day, I bought something and noticed that it also came in a twin-pack, right in the next space on the shelf. As I reached for the twin-pack, I did some quick arithmetic. Seems the twin-pack was priced at 20% more than buying 2 individual items. Such a deal!
I've seen this in fast food places and grocery stores. The giant size isn't always a bargain. Quite often people pay more for the size because they are conditioned to think it is less than buying 2 or more of the smaller sizes.
This is the time to be prudent and alert in the marketplace.
