Must Be Nice

On the one hand, it's nice that the President - an obvious sports fan - would take such an interest in landing an economic powerhouse such as the Summer Olympic Games of 2016 for Chicago that he would drop everything and hop onto Air Force One to spend the day in Denmark.

On the other hand, you have to wonder if he would have done the same thing for St. Louis, Phoenix, Seattle, Dallas, or dozens of other potential hosting cities that are not his hometown.

I mean it's not as if he had nothing to focus on here at home - or even abroad in places like Korea, Iran, and Afghanistan.

If he serves just one term, the Olympic Organizing Committee in Chicago could use someone well-connected like him. If his term runs through 2016, that kind of influence still can't hurt the city.

Well, Chicago still has to be awarded the Games, but having the President as a pitchman must have been impressive to the IOC.
