Ever lose or misplace your car keys? Who hasn't? Most of the time - but not always - we find them without a lot of looking or lost time. Sometimes it takes a couple of days. Sometimes they really are lost.
Well. losing our keys is bad enough, but how how about losing the car - make that 300 cars?
We're not talking stolen, we're talking actually forgetting they existed.
Turns out that between 2006-2007, the then mayor of Miami-Dade County who has since been recalled for financial misdealings among aother issues, purchased 298 Toyota Prius cars - and they have been parked ever since. Not a mile on them that they didn't come with. The engines have never been started.
It's not clear why no one missed them, but it's speculated that the purchase wasn't that public. Anyway, several of them have been rushed into service to protect what's left of the warranties. Not sure if all will be used or what the future may hold for them.
Next time you misplace your keys, be thankful it wasn't a fleet of cars.
