The Florida Agricultural Commissioner is reporting - in addition to the assault by the Giant African Land Snails - that Florida's avocado crop is under attack. Apparently avocados are the second largest crop in Florida - who knew?
Anyway, the ambrosio beetle, a dinky little critter that is about the size of "2011" on a penny, is threatening to ruin the avocado trees in the state. The trees are a cousin to the red bay, and these have already been hit hard by the beetle on Florida's east coast.
