Happy Patriots' Day! Third Monday in April. Occasionally, it's even on the 19th - the anniversary of the beginning of the American Revolution (War for Independence) in 1775.
This is local holiday in the northeast - in Massachusetts and Maine (although Maine puts the apostrophe before the "s"), and it's also observed in Wisconsin. Seems like it should be celebrated everywhere. Pretty important day in our history and a significant one for affirming our liberties and commitment to them.
We do have an Independence Day, as many countries do. However, we don't have a Constitution Day holiday, and we don't have a widely celebrated Patriots' Day. (Not to be confused with "Patriot Day" - singular - that was created after 9/11).
So many Americans - regardless of their heritage - are Patriots. We love what America stands for.
It is fitting that we have a national Patriots' Day (with the apostrophe at the end to show that it belongs to all of us) and not just let 3 states do all of the celebrting. Even if not a day off, it needs to on the calendar like St. Patrick's Day and Halloween.
We need to show each other and the world that we are a proud nation.
