On being passionate about what you do

I really respect someone who has a true passion and energy for what they do. Thomas Edison said that he never worked a day in his life - it was all fun.

This morning I saw part of an interview with the new gold-medal winner from the USA in women's all-around gymnastics, Nastia Liukin, her teammate Shawn Johnson, who won the silver medal. Shawn said that she had a real passion for the sport. That's why she competes and trains. She said she wouldn't have changed anything about the past few years of preparing for this moment - even if she could.

Regardless of whether we are salespeople, stagers, loan officers, mortgage brokers, agents, builders, inspectors, marketers, or any of dozens of other professions that participate here on Active Rain, we can all be passionate about what we do - if we want.

In today's business environment, it's easy to be sloppy, uninspiring, defeatest, negative, pessimistic, and fatalistic. That's why there's a lot of whinning and complaining going on - and quitting. However, you won't hear that from the people who are really passionate about what they do. Minor setbacks are just speedbumps in the road to success. Major issues are just challenges to overcome.

When you believe in what you do and are passionate about, it's no longer work but a pursuit.
