Playing it safe isn't alwayd the best course - in business, sports, or life. Gambles often pay off - not always.
I was watching some of a ballgame recently on TV and happened to see a baserunner hold up and not advance - when doing so looked risky but would have ultimately meant the tying run. Could they have been thrown out at the next base? Sure. Was it a certainty? No. Even if the ball got there way ahead of them, there would have been a chance (maybe only a small one) that they could slide around the tag or knock the ball loose.
In baseball, as well as life, we have to look at a promising situation and seriously ask ourselves what the likelihood is that a better opportunity might come along if we ignore this one.
That doesn't mean that we should be hasty or foolhardy - just maybe a little brave. It might be a stretch or a little uncomfortable, but look at the alternative. Where would inaction get us?
