New Advertising Power

Looking for another way to create synergy on the web and get more advertising power? Yahoo Real Estate and Zillow have just announced that they are partnering to allow ads for property that are purchased and placed on Zillow's site to be visible on both sites.

In addition, Zillow will be managing a common set of available listings on both sites.

Under terms of the agreement, Zillow will serve as the exclusive provider of listings of properties for sale at Yahoo Real Estate, and Yahoo will continue to control the look and display of listings posted on ts site. , and will maintain separate databases of foreclosure properties, newly constructed homes, and rentals.

The venture is an attempt to give them enough power to supplant Realtor.com as the number one listing site.

Black Friday Has Morphed

No need to camp out all night to be first in line at your favorite retailer for their Black Friday doorbuster sale that starts at 4:00, 4:30 or 5:00 am. Your can if you want, but there's no need.

Retailers have gotten the internet marketing bug and have been sending out emails with many of their specials all during this week. I've already succumbed to some pretty special deals. You can either buy online for delivery or you could have visited the store yesterday or today (for those that are open).

When retailers need to generate business, where do they turn? Obviously, the internet. Oh, the newspapers still got some ad business, but I'm betting the emails are going to save this holiday shopping season - if anything is.

Another reason to be active online.

Don't you just love all the advice?

Ever watch the Saturday or Sunday morning sports shows before a big game? All of the analysts tell us what needs to happen for a team to prevail in its contest - as if those teams didn't know that. They comment on every aspect of the game and have it all decided before the opening whistle ever blows - yet they still play the games.

Ever watch the investment shows or the business shows that analyze and recap the stock market or commodities exchanges? Everyone promotes a great, can't miss stock - and none of them agree. Well we can't try all of their ideas.

I find similarities with website and social media usage. Everyone is an expert. Everyone knows exactly what Google looks for and tells us how to position our site just right for maximum indexing and exposure - only the truth is nobody who is writing these articles really knows.

The same is true with SEO, key words, meta tags, content, graphics. and everything else associated with the internet.

I'm not challenging anyone's credentials or advice - I give plenty of it myself. I just find it a little amusing that there are so many articles and opinions on what to do - and what supposedly works the best.

To a large extent, it's experimentation to find what works best - on an individual basis - within certain basic guidelines and templates.

A successful online presence is as much an art as it is a science.
