I know that Punxsutawney Phil doesn't show up until tomorrow and that it may still look and feel a lot like winter in many parts of the country, but spring isn't that far away.
Actually, the groundhog leads off an entire month of festivities - beginning tomorrow. For a short month, February has a tremendous number of important dates.
After Groundhog Day tomorrow - and election day here in South Florida - we have the beginning of the NASCAR season on the 6th, followed by the Daytona 500 and Valentine’s Day on the 14th. You'd think Valentine's Day and the Daytona 500 wouldn't have to compete for the same day.
Don’t forget the Super Bowl in Miami on the 7th. Even if you don’t like football or either team that is playing, you have to tune in to watch those $2.5 million plus commercials. If nothing else, they make great topics of conversation - and fodder for blogs.
For those in the north, the 12th is Abraham Lincoln’s birthday. For those who still remember, the 22nd is George Washington’s birthday. Now we celebrate just one day on the 15th as President’s Day.
New Orleans is featured twice this month — once for playing in the Super Bowl on the 7th and again for hosting Mardi Gras on the 16th. Ash Wednesday is the 17th.
Then we open Major League Baseball spring training at the end of the month.
Have I left something out? Quite possibly. This is going to be a busy month.
