You'd Think They Would Want To Wear It Proudly

Watching last night's first round of the NFL Draft showcase some really good football talent and some really bad cap wearers.

As each draftee was approaching the podium, they were given the appropriate cap to put on for their new team. A couple of them carried the cap a few steps before reluctantly putting it on. It's not clear whether they objected to the idea of wearing a cap or knew how silly it would look with their hair style.

Regardless, a few of the players had the cap perched on their head or just resting at an odd angle.

Seems that the teams need to get way bigger caps, they need to find something else to adorn their new players, or the draftees need to get an appropriate haircut before the ceremony in order to wear a cap correctly. I favor the last option.

For a several million dollar contract, is that too much to ask?

Draft Day Is Finally Here!

After months of speculation, hype, and mock draft picks, the NFL Draft is finally here. It alll begins tonight.

The Colts are hoping to have some Luck this season, and the Redskins will likely go with RG III. From there on, we'll have to watch to see what happens.

At least the Bears have a first-round pick this year - actually one in every round.

Let the fun begin, and good luck to your team!

Everyone's An Expert

With the NFL Draft now just a week away, all the pundits and analysts have their "mock draft" ideas of which players should and likely will be selected by each team in the first round - based in part on what the teams have identified as particular needs they have and based in part on who the anlaysts think fills a need they think a team has. It's amazing how much the various forecasters vary.

Of course, after the number one pick and possibly the number two - which will be arranged and agreed upon by the respective teams and players involved - before the draft to avoid possible embarassment, everything else can change with just one pick. As soon as the number three player is picked, that throws off all of the other predictions for the analysts that had this player farther down in the round.

Also, the predictions are based on what the analysts consider to be the chief need of a team - left tackle, guard, center, tight end, safety, receiver, running back, defensive end, cornerback, linebacker, or quarterback. No one really knows how that will shake out until it happens. As the picks disappear to the teams ahead of a team that wanted a particular player, they pick someone else. That in turn, shakes it up from there on.

Quite interesting to see who gets picked when, by which team, and how close the various guesses were.

At least this season, there is a season to look forward to after the Draft.

Any Super Bowl Contenders Yet?

With Rounds 1, 2, and 3 of the the 2010 NFL Draft completed - the 75th Draft - how is your team doing so far? Some teams looks like they are really loading up. Of course collegiate performance is no predicter of NFL talent.

Still, I have to hand it to Jerry Angelo. The Chicago Bears traded away picks in the first 2 rounds to acquire Jay Cutler and Gaines Adams last year, but when it came time for the 75th pick of the 75th Draft, he was ready. Welcome Major Wright (of the championship Florida Gators teams) to the Chicago Bears. The Bears needed a defensive back, and everyone rated high was already off the board. Then Jerry gets Wright. Nice.

The Draft concludes today with Rounds 4-7. Good luck everyone (but not too much).

Finally, It's Draft Day - Round One

After months of speculation, fantasy drafts, mock drafts, the combine, interviews, analyses, and anticipation, it's finally here.

The 2010 NFL begins tonight from Radio City Music Hall in New York. Sixteen high-potential draftees have been invited to the party to accept their draft live on-stage in front of the studio and TV audiences.

Who is going to be #1? What type of a year might they have? What type of contibution might they make this season?

Personally, I don't care about tonight's Round One or tomorrow night's Round Two, as the Chicago Bears don't have a pick until Round 3 on Saturday. Interestingly enough, may of their top playerts over the years have come the third round or later.

Hope your team does well. Traditionally some do, and some don't.

We'll see after the weekend how everything looks.
