Many of us enjoyed that extra hour of sleep we got last Sunday with the change back to standard time, but we have long since used up the benefits of that additional 60 minutes.
Can we do it again? Can we set our clocks back again? Is there a way to get more sleep?
I have a solution, and it's only 3 months away.
Every 4 years we have an extra day in the calendar - February 29th. I propose this as a national day of rest. Everyone stays home except medical professionals, first responders, and others who work regardless of the day. All stores and businesses are closed. No driving except to work or to friends. Nothing else is open.
Employers would not be charged for any contributions that day, and no one would need to get paid (except those actually on shift) because there are still 365 days in the year not counting this one. It is truly a free day. Let's sleep on it.
