Do we still remember how to think?

With automation and short-cuts essentially running our lives, it’s hard to survive when electricity or machines fail us.

Ever see what happens at a 4-way signalized intersection when the traffic signals are off altogether or blinking yellow in one direction and red in the other – or yellow all the way around?

And when was the last time a clerk actually counted back your change as they were placing it in your hand? Whatever the computer says your change, whether it’s right or not, is what you get – and in a lump just handed to you.

How do youngsters know if the calculator they’re punching numbers into is adding or subtracting them correctly – and if the answer is not as expected could it because of an entry error?

Ever argue with your GPS – or yell at it – when it didn’t wanted you to turn but you saw a better route?

I know it’s a lot easier to type half-way legibly with a spellchecker, and I’m not sure I’d want to try to take a spelling test today. Do they still have them in school? Maybe not.

And there’s speed-dialing on our phone? What ever happened to remembering someone’s number? Now, I just have to remember who’s #2 and who’s #3 on the keypad.

Just keep those batteries charged and in full supply.
