I could have called this “having your cake and eating it, too” – essentially the same message.
Attended a dinner today and when we arrived, each place was already set with the salad and the dessert. I’ve seen this before, so that’s not the punchline of the story.
It just got me to thinking about how often in life we pursue the dessert first – of how we’re too busy or too impatient to let things run their course or to take the time to do things in an orderly fashion.
Back to the meal. Here you can come in, sit down, and eat the dessert first if you like – instant gratification. However, it kind of takes the edge off the rest of the meal. What do you have to look forward to? Maybe you can talk someone else at your table out of their dessert.
