Gabrielle "Gabby" Giffords of Arizona's 8th Congressional District - the State's southernmost - was fatally shot earlier today at a Safeway Plaza doing what she was supposed to be doing - meeting with her constituents. She was hosting her first "Congress On Your Corner" event, and it is unthinkable that someone would resort to this violence. She was attacked and shot in the head at point blank range, and many others in the crowd were injured as well. At least the gunman was captured.
As a nation, we must be deeply troubled by this.
