A Leave Of Absence Will Make It All Better

First of all Anthony Weiner as an elected national representative should be held to the highest of standards. He has failed that test several ways.

First only a few were calling for his resignation. Now Pelosi and Wasserman-Schultz are doing so as well, but he will not be swayed. He is keeping his position.

Why is this his option?

House rules don't cover this?

So he takes a leave of absence? Who gave this to him - or did he just take it? With full pay?

So he does a stint in rehab (for what? no one seems to know) and all is forgiven, all is better? Things are forgotten and back to normal?

What a horrible precendence Washington is setting here. This should not be his call. He has damaged Congress even more.

"I'm Sorry" Isn't Enough

Rep. Anthony Weiner's press conference today was woefully short of being effective. He did not resign. "I'm sorry" wasn't enough.

Lesser offenses by Members of Congress have resulted in resignations. Seems to me that Nancy Pelosi wanted Denny Hastert to step down because things happened on his watch.

As Connie Mack noted tonight, the House should be discussing the budget and the debt limit instead of being embroiled in a discussion - and distraction - about one of its members.

We are not arguing about his guilt or innocence - he admitted the offenses. We are saying these actions are well below the conduct we demand of Members of Congress - and possibly criminal.

He needs to resign first thing in the morning or be removed by the House.
