I'm tickled by the number of people who are put off by the fact that the newspapers and TV seem to have nothing good to say about the economy, interest rates, employment, energy, home sales, housing starts, builders, or Realtors. Why should they? They are in the business of selling newspapers or increasing their ratings. They're the ones who root for the lions in the Coliseum, the ones who go to the races to see a big wreck.
Why should we abdicate responsibility for how we feel to a business who (1) doesn't even know us personally, (2) enjoys taking shots at our industry, and (3) actually celebrates when people start believing their junk?
In short, we - and only we - are responsible for how we feel each day - and at any moment during that day.
I know that bad, depressing, and "gloom-and-doom" stories (notice that I didn't call it "news") are circulated and printed each day. I just ignore them or try not to read or listen to them. Denial? Absolutely not. Just an entirely different paradigm. I'm positive and optimistic.
Customers might be a little scarcer than a few years ago. There might be a few more hoops to jump through. Buyers might have more issues that we need to help them with. Hey, that's what makes this business exciting.
Join me in creating our own good news.
