Now that's an oxymoron. Government taking responsibility. Since they don't have to, why should they?
Take the case of tolls roads - or even non-toll roads. How many days a year do we get to drive on totally open, non lane-restricted, non barricaded, non pot-holed roadways and bridges? Not that many - maybe none.
I realize that there are a lot of vehicle trips per day in cities and towns and rural areas all over this country and that repairs and expansion need to occur.
That said, when you pay to drive on a toll road and it's actually dangerous or inconvenient due to lanes being closed, road surface missing in preparation for resurfacing, shoulders closed or missing due to lane expansion, concrete bunkers narrowing and lining mile after mile of restricted lanes, reduced speed limits, flagpeople actually halting traffic as only one lane in each direction is open, and other such issues, why do we have to pay to drive on them?
There should be no tolls or reduced tolls until it's back to full operation.
Other businesses make such concessions - oh, that's right, government is not a business. It doesn't have to be concerned about customer satisfaction.
