If You Live In Colorado, Stop This

The Department of Human Services in Colorado has proposed a set of guidelines for day care programs that are appalling. Make sure it does not become law. If enacted, no one should send their kids to daycare.

Here's a sample - there must be 3 races of dolls - and only 3, although not specified. No whole mile allowed for anyone 2 or older - only 1%, 2%, or skim. Only 20 minutes of TV or computer time per day unless it's a special occasion (can'r imagine what that might be). Guidelines will be issued on eating times also.

So parents have to pay good money to private state-run day care programs and have their kids subjected to standards of living that may be in direct conflict to what they have at home?

What happened to freedom of choice? What happened to liberty and the pursuit of happiness?

Who decides that 21 minutes of TV is dangerous? Who decides that whole milk in injurious?

Rise up Coloradoans. Defeat this. Some parents can't work unless they use daycare.

Why Are We Still Allowed To Drive And Fly?

When there is a major disastrous event in this country, the first response - rather a reaction - by someone in Washington - Member of Congress, a Cabinet Secretary, the President, or a Csar - is to call for that activity to be halted, suspended, or abandoned.

Nearly a year ago, the explosion in the Gulf of Mexico that killed 11 oil platform workers and led to the oil spill occurred. There is still no drilling taking place in the Gulf although one permit has been recently issued to resume an existing well. We have taken a full year out of our economic life and canceled it.

We have occasional plane crashes that damage property and kill people. Do we ban air travel? Do we shut down Boeing and other airline manufacturers?

We have hundreds of fatal car crashes each year. Hardly a month goes by when we don't hear about a recall of same make or model car or truck for some safety reason. Yet, cars are still made and sold, and people continue to drive them.

While rare, carnival rides sometimes malfunction and injure people. Should we ban carnivals?

We talk about high speed rail, yet I'm surprised rail is even allowed - all of these Amtrak accidents and commuter train crashes.

Banning oil production is just as ridiculous as banning any of the other activities. Accidents happen. Why hamstring an important part of our economy just to make a point - an erroneous one at that? This accident was as much the fault and responsibility of MMS and their inspection program as anything else.

Unless we are prepared to scrap and ban any item, from toys to Space Shuttles - that cause harm and injury through an occasional operator error, design flaw, product durability issue, weather condition, or just bad luck - then let's get back to drilling and remove the word moratorium from our vocabulary.

Look Out Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, PTAs, Safety Patrols, and School Clubs

In the latest blatant attempt for the government to assert itself into our lives - this time lead by the First Lady - legislation labeled as a "child nutrition bill" is on its way to the President for signature.

This bill gives the federal government explicit power to ban or otherwise regulate candy bar sales and bake sales on school grounds because they detract from the wholesome nuitrition dished out in the cafeteria.

If bake sales and the like continue, they likely will need to meet nutritional guidelines for portion size and ingredients.

So, high school football teams, choir, band, cheerleaders, science clubs, debate teams, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, PTSs, and many other groups who have relied on food sales for fundraising are soon to be put out of business or seriously regulated.

I read nothing in the Constitution that allows this type of invasive, egregious action.

Can we just go back to the 1950s and forget the food police?
