In a TV commercial just released by Chrysler for their 300 vehicle, the ad is long on poitical activism and short on product promotion.
I don't know if it's actually run on TV, but I have seen the ad, It's not available on YouTube or I would share it with you.
It focuses on politcal movements and prisoners in the past 50 years and has the vehicle crash through a symbolic Berlin Wall. Nothing is actually said about the car; it is just featured.
Here's the issue. If Chrysler were a private company, it could say whatever it wants. However, as a subsidiary of the U.S. Government, does such an ad really become a covert propaganda piece?
The ad does nothing to position the Chyrsler Corporation as a leader in automotive technology or sales, it does not enhance its brand, and it delivers a confusing message - unless it really is the major stockholder that is driving the message.
Government and business do not mix.
