My new program: "Put Congress To Work"

In yesterday's post I discussed how we as a country, and particularly our leaders, need to heed the insightful, prophetic advice of President John F. Kennedy, in his Inaugural Address: "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."

Taking that a step further, I have a plan. It's called "Put Congress To Work," and it's mandatory.

They're called public servants. Time to see that in action.

Here's how it works. Pick 12 weeks when they are on a highly paid vacation or recess anyway. I'm sure there's more than enough days. If not, let them skip a committee meeting or two. Have them return to their home districts and work a 5 day week - free! They've already been paid, now they can actually earn some of their salary.

They would work for 12 different companies. Local businesses would apply to an appointed local board to decide the assignments. No governmental office or public schools could apply since that would be spending public money on public projects.

Why do all this? The main reason is that members of Congress are way out of step with America. Let them work, talk, and eat with people they supposedly represent. Don't worry about learning curves, security, and all the details. That will be taken into account during the assignment process.

They're already getting paid, so shouldn't we get some return on our investment?
