Super Bowl Renewal

What more evidence do you need that the seasons are changing? The NFL preseason is underway.

Tonight, the two teams from last year's Super Bowl (which really wasn't last year because it was played in February of this year), the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals, played again. Same teams, same outcome, different location. This time the game was played in Pittsburgh instead of Tampa.

Obviously it didn't mean the same as the last time the game was played, and the reasons for playing it were different.

Last time, the TV commercials mattered almost as much as the game. Last time, the entire season of conditioning and qualifying to represent their respective Conferences was behind them. Last time, each player was focused for an all-out effort in the "game of a lifetime." Last time, the office pools and the Las Vegas action were a major part of the game. Last time there were viewing parties.

Tonight, the starters for both teams played a few downs. Then the players trying to win a position with the team got to show the coaches and the fans - and coaches from other teams - what they could do.

What a difference a few months can make. What a difference intensity can make.

Are You Ready For Some Football?

It's back!! NFL football.

Training camps across the country are open and getting down to business. The pads have come out. The hitting has begun.

Time to begin finding out which rookies might have the right stuff to make the team and contribute. Time to begin assessing where the season might go.

Right now, every team has the same unblemished record. We'll see how long any team can make that claim.

For now, the wait is over, Football is back.
