Remember when teachers were concerned about their students and actually teaching - instead of ditching class to protest at the Capitol because their union "rights" were being eroded? Or instead of being in the classroom they werer walking a picket line to start the school year because they didn't get a raise? Or now they are suing governments because they are being forced to contribute to their own pension plan rather than having the taxpayers carry the entire burden?
Seems to me that if teachers really liked their job and loved teaching that these union issues would be secondary.
Of course everyone likes to make as much money as possible, but if comes down to keeping your job or contributing 3% of your income to your retirement fund - which you'll get back anyway - which would you choose?
Gov. Rick Scott of Florida has now been sued by the teachers' union. The Legislature and the Governor attempted to restore a little fiscal sanity to the state budget, and this was one way to do it.
These labor disputes - similar to the NFL and NBA - are all about the employees getting more and more money without any regard for the people who pay them - the fans in sports and the taxpayers for teachers.
Maybe teachers should be glad they are employed. There are many Americans who are not.
