President Obama announced that he wants to take a "huge chunk" of the unspent monies allocated for the Stimulus/Bailout and use it to pay down the national debt. Why not just not spend the money in the first place? The money doesn't exist and to spend it would only create the debt that is trying to be repaid.
It sounds a lot like trying to write a check to cover an overdraft at the bank or using a charge card to make a payment on another charge card.
While it might sound good that the President wants to help pay down the debt - that he and Congress largely created through their actions - it is smoke and mirrors.
