NPR (National Public Radio) has come under fire by their own hand in recent months and brought to light that they are partly funded by our tax dollars and through foundations that receive tax money.
Their liberal bias is fine in the realm of journalism but not as a recipient of federal money.
The point is that they serve no public purpose any more than any other news outlet, and there is no place for the federal funding of any radio, TV, or newspaper. It's called "freedom of the press."
That said, the House voted yesterday to deny any more funding to NPR. Aside from not being necessary, we are in a budget and spending crisis in this country like never before. Frivolous expenditures of any kind must be eliminated.
If NPR can't survive without an infusion of taxpayer money then it doesn't need to exist. It's up to them how they want to raise money, but it can't include donations from the federal treasury - directly or indirectly. No one is suggesting that they go away, just that they stand on their own - if they can do that.
The President wants the funding to continue. The Senate likely does, too. So the House action may not be enough to strip NPR of its funding. It just might beat the rap and be given a stay. If this plays out this way, it foretells an even gloomier picture for the US economy and runaway federal spending.
The House has done their part although every single Democrat voted to keep the funding - along with 7 Republicans. Were these people asleep at the last election? Did they not hear how we want to curb spending? Don't they think we are watching? Guess not.
