Harry Reid couldn't prevail. He pushed too hard and came up short. Americans want immigration reform. They don't want amnesty - in any form, by any name.
In an 11th hour vote today in the closing hours of the lame-duck Senate session, only 55 votes favored the DREAM Act - 5 short of the required 60.
In the next session of Congress, it wouldn't get close to that if the meaure were to surface again. This was a prelude to amnesty and turning our collective back on the illegal acts of millions of people who came into this country and continue to reside here without authorization.
They use our services and we pay their way through a number of channels. Now let's really begin to tighten the door on illegal entry and address this issue responsibly.
