I write this from a little different perspective than many people who use a camera. I almost feel like I was born with one although in reality I didn't start using one on a serious basis until high school.
I have owned a Brownie, Polaroid, electric 35mm camera, camera that shot 616 film, an Agfa that shot square images akin to 35mm, twin-lens Hasselblad, several Nikons (film and digital), and an assortment of point-and-shoot. I am also experienced with a 4x5 Graflex.
Well, after years of great results with my Nikon D70 (I got it the day it was released - I was even on a waiting list - and that's a story for another time), I have run into a series of issues that means the repair estimate (and it continues to climb) is now half of what a much better model replacement would cost.
Part of the fun of this, although this was not a budgeted item right now, is that I get to choose another Nikon. This eliminates consideration of any other brand. I already have quality (and expensive) lenses to go with any new model I choose. It's just evaluating the features to choose the one I want to use for the next several years. (Side note - 4 years ago I finally sold my Nikon F that I bought used in 1967).
At some point in the near future, I'll unveil some photos shot with the new camera (whichever one it is). For now I still have an extensive photo library.
