2011 December Blogging Challenge - Moving Day Lessons

Today started out as being a day to help a friend move. It ended up being very educational.

I know some of you have moved this past year into a new office, and you can relate to what I experienced.

It is amazing how much stuff we can accumulate - stuff that no longer matters to us - as evidenced by the condition it is in or the amount of similar items that we have.

And take boxes of papers - papers that should have been scanned into the computer or tossed years ago. Couldn't find anything in those boxes or file drawers in a reasonable period of time anyway.

And the stuff we keep that is broken or no longer working.

All said, it gave me fuel to start the new year with a clearer picture on what stays and what goes.

2011 December Blogging Challenge - Share With The World

If you are blogging on Active Rain to attract customers, create strategic relationships, build your search engine presence, present yourself as an expert in your area, and allow others to connect with you, then many people need to change the way they post. If you're not posting for any of these reasons, we need to talk.

This is my blogging challenge gift to you as an experiences blogger.

I know that many people choose to use the "Members Only" but this should never be used unless you are a basic member and this is the only choice you have. If that's the case, I would consider a Rainmaker account (give yourself and your business a holiday present) so you can dramtically extend your reach and effectiveness.

I posted to "Members Only" just once - way back - and figured out this was not good.

Let me explain, now that some of you are angry or puzzles at this suggestion.

Question #1: why do we blog?

Answer #1: to be seen by the public, colleagures, strategic partners, and the search engines.

Question #2: why would we want to hamper this?

Answer #2: no good reason.

Anything that is suitable for posting - even if it's just that you got a flu shot, or the roast overcooked and it was just one of those days, or something else of a relatively personal (but not private) nature, then it should be a public post. Google doesn't see "Members Only" and neither does our outside blog.

The real test is that if you really don't want anyone who should be reading your post to actually see it, then you should post other material.

For the new year, I would prefer to see no "Members Only" posts (except for Basic members until they upgrade to a Rainmaker account). I do not see any other reason to have them.

Get the most out of your blogging experience, and go public.

2011 December Blogging Challenge - Staying On Top

I have written 6 books so far for new home salespeople, with 4 others for Realtors and general sales. One more is finished and another has just one more chapter to complete.

I have been ranking high on the first page of Google for "Sales Books for New Home Sales." Two weeks ago, I ranked first and 6th. Tonight, I have retained my number one ranking (out of 1.7 billion results!) and moved up to # 4 also.

This is a great time of year to buy books for your own library or to give as gifts.

They are available on my website or on Amazon.

2011 December Blogging Challenge - Picking The Right Spot

This woodpecker takes the time to survey the tree before just banging its head against any old branch. It is selective. It wants to make sure that its effort brings about the right results. Life can be hard - just like this tree for the woodpecker. By knowing what we want to achieve and how to go about getting it, the job is more rewarding and profitable.

I'm like this woodpecker this month as I look for just the right places to start uncovering those hidden gems that  may not be visible on the surface.
