Cry wolf long enough about the financial mess in this country, and people will believe you and become very afraid - if Tim Geitner has his way.
Geitner has been going on about the need to raise the debt limit for months. He talks about the US defaulting on its debts if we don't raise the ceiling. He talks about the irresponsibility of not raising it.
Actually, it's all talk. We won't default, and the irresponsibilty is squarely his for trying to get us deeper into debt.
Since he is the Treasurer, he pays the bills. He will not default on payments unless he chooses to do so. We have the money to fund our bills. We don't have the money to expand programs or create new ones.
What he, the Administration, and certain members of Congress want is to continue to borrow and dig ourselves into an even bigger hole.
This is the height of irresponsibilty.
Congress can make a statement here. let's hope that they do.
