Harry Reid Is Being Played

For all his bluster - comparing Republicans who disagree with his health care plan to slavery proponents and literally bullying reticent members of his own party into supporting his bill - Harry Reid is being played like a fine violin by the White House.

It started with the csars - over thirty of them - mostly unconstitutional and totally unaccountable to anyone except the President. The Senate is empowered by the Constitution to allow the executive branch to create such positions with its consent and oversight. The White House just chose to ignore the Senate. Some protested, most didn't. The deed was done. Precedent set.

The House of Representatives passed the President's Cap and Trade bill in the late spring (June) and sent it to the Senate. The Senate has yet to look at it, and we thought maybe we were safe from this game-changing piece of legislation - even though the NAR supported this bill's passage in the House.

Enter the White House. It gets the EPA (a cabinet department in the executive branch) to enact regulations and restrictions on carbon emissions - thereby enacting legislation that has never been passed and doesn't even need to be.

The President has made Congress - especially the Senate - irrelevant.

For all the crises the President talks about - and nearly all are invented - the one true crisis we do have in this country is a constitutional one. The President ignores it or plays loosy-goosy with the Constitution, and the Congress doesn't seem to mind. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court enacts legislation that they think Congress really should have done but didn't.
