It Took An Act Of Congress For This?

On Monday, President Obama signed the "Daniel Pearl Freedom of the Press Act" in honor of Daniel Pearl. It was passed by Congress and orders the State Department to prepare and publish a list of countries where journalists and bloggers aren't safe. Duh!

This is somehow supposed to shame those countriesinto changing their ways.

It took an act of Congress to pass something that we should already know, that the State Department should already be doing, and for which visas should not be issued or authorized?

It was a nice gesture to honor Daniel Pearl and his family, but wasn't there a proclamation or something else that could have been used?

Clearly Congress has nothing better to do than create something that didn't need passed. Last time I looked, the State Department was in the Administration, and the President could have so directed them to do this if they weren't doing it already.

Harry Reid Continues To Dishonor Us

It seems that two years ago Harry Reid said some very uncomplimentary things about then Candidate Obama. They could be construed as racist remarks. There is little doubt that a Republican saying as much would be publicly chastized or worse.

Remember Trent Lott that had to give up his seat? Remember Joe Wilson who called Obama a liar (which no one really disputed - only Joe's method)?

Harry says he apologized to Obama, the apology was accepted, end of story. Hmm, Joe Wilson apololgized to Obama, the apology was accepted, and he was formally censured by the House after a half-day of proceedings. Double standard?

This latest incident is just another in the long list of missteps by Harry Reid that demonstrates that he has dishonore his office, the Senate, and the people of America. Too bad we can't impeach Senators. I'll address that in another post.

Boy, They Sure Told Him

Today, Congress, in one of their most important votes of the session, decided by a margin of 240-179, with 5 others just voting "present," to censure Joe Wilson of South Carolina. I just bet he is devastated.

The language of the censure was harsh and sent the message that he had messed up real bad.

What did it say? The core of the rebuke was this: "Whereas the conduct of the Representative from South Carolina was a breach of decorum and degraded the proceedings of the joint session, to the discredit of the House: Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the House of Representatives disapproves of the behavior of the Representative from South Carolina."

Diapproves? Wow, I guess they told him. I hope he's properly shamed by this resounding scolding.

And we thought Congress didn't actually do anything.
