Return Of A Dear Friend

My computer came back last night. How appropriate that it was Valentine's Day. We owe so much to our computers.

They can be moody and temperamental, but try living without them.

My desktop went out over 2 weeks ago. After an endless series of troubleshooting and diagnostic steps, HP finally had no choice but to conclude that it was a hardware issue. They sent a part. A technician came to install it. The part that was shipped was defective.

Now on to part two. Send the computer away to one of their facilities. That was done and it came back last night.

My notebook stepped in performed extremely well. It's just not the same, however.

Now. I'm in the process of putting everything back. It's not unlike moving. Putting things away, figuring out where they should go, discarding some stuff, finding new homes for things. We are making progress, but we're not there yet. A few more days ...

What A Way To Spend An Evening

About 4 hours ago I started cleaning up the data on my computer because it was acting like I had somehow spilled peanut butter in it. Did the normal diagnostics, cleanups, defrags. Then I did several uninstalls of obsolete or useless programs that I had managed to invest in over the past couple of years.

Then it was time for another round of cleanup and defrag.

So far I have managed to shave an amazing 3 minutes off the startup but it is still way too long.

After posting this and reading some other posts, it's back to tweaking this some more.

Is there a computer gnome someplace that is just laughing himself silly right now?

Look what I got for Christmas already that I didn’t even know I needed

If you had asked me a few days ago about what I needed or wanted for Christmas, the answer would have been easy. There was nothing that I wanted. Nothing that I had to have. Nothing that I just couldn’t live without. There was not one thing I longed for or absolutely had to have or wouldn’t be complete without.

That was until my computer crashed.

I am now in possession of a brand new, faster, larger computer that should serve my needs until it decides one day to stop working – or 3 years, whichever comes first. That’s about the longest I’ve ever had a computer.

Well anyway I have my Christmas present - unexpected though it was. Now I’m set.
