I watched parts of the NCAA Women's Softball Championship yesterday for the winner's bracket. There were 2 games with 4 undefeated teams participating. It was a pitching duel and a defensive duel. There were a few hits but not what is characteristic for any of the teams. Maybe because they were playing the best in their opponent. All teams had brought their "A" game.
It really underscores that at the top level of competition, when we are prepared to play our opponent likely is as well. It's a game of inches at this point - literally. One little thing can make the difference in being successful.
Wouldn't you know that both games had identical scores of 1-0 and that both were decided by a solo homerun in the final inning (actually one went into an extra inning)? One team was able to just do a little more than other at the last moment to make the difference.
