It's becoming the "must have" skill

Go back with me 20 years or so (or more). Remember in high school when you were given the option of taking typing class? Typing class? Are you kidding me? If I need typing done, I'll hire someone to do it it. That was then.

This is now. Type? Who isn't capable on some form of typing? Conventional typing, one-finger typing, thumb typing, stylus typing - depending on the format and size of the keyboard. It's how we communicate today. Everyone types. Anyone who emails or texts is a typer. Same with bloggers. Cops, nurses, doctors - anyone who fills out daily or incident reports is a typer. No longer is it considered anything special to be able to type.

Now for tomorrow. We are moving into the era when participating in and knowing how to use various forms of social media will be a necessary business skill. Active Rain, Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, Flickr, LinkedIn, and on and on - choose your favorites. You don't need to be one them all - how could you? But you need to have a solid presence that you establish and maintain.

Who knows what's going to be around that next corner that we'll need to embrace and master, but for now social media is a must.
