It's Time To Practice Our Safe Driving

The school calendar says it's that time again - time for the school year to begin. More importantly, it's time that we really utilize our safe driving skills.

Kids along the roadway - on a sidewalk or not - can instantly dart into the road, push each other, drop something, or otherwise come into the lanes of traffic. We must anticipate and drive defensively.

We also need to allow extra time in driving around schools to get to appointments.

Vacation is Over

Can you believe it? Summer vacation is over. It's back to school in Palm Beach County tomorrow.

Remember when school didn't start until after labor Day? That's still 3 weeks away.

Time for the kids to renew friendships, tackle new subjects, meet new teachers, and get back into their routines.

We need to be very careful as drivers. The streets will be swollen with more cars as parents drive their kids to school, and those 20mph school districts will be operational again.

Let's wish the kids and the teachers good luck in their new school year!

Well, the countdown has begun

Palm Beach County schools start again just one week from tomorrow. This is the week that every schoolkid dreads – the last week of summer vacation. It’s also a week that many parents look forward to throughout the summer.

It seems summer vacations are shorter than we were kids – I used to remember thinking that I’d forget my locker combination or that my math skills would somehow evaporate from weeks of nonuse.

One good thing about school starting again – that is, for those of us whose kids are grown – it means football is very close.
