Steve Hoffacker's Sales Quips

Each year we look for little things that we can hang onto as signs that the winter is over and spring is on its way.

We've already had several this year. First, Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow for the first time in many years, supposedly indicating an early spring.

Next, the Daytona 500 kicked off the NASCAR season and spring training for Major League Baseball started. Then we had Mardi Gras and Ash Wednesday.

Now we have changed the time for nearly all the country. This last one is the unofficial beginning of spring. The other indicators were great, but now we know that spring is imminent. We've already turned the clock ahead in expectation.

Actually the official beginning of spring is but a week away, occurring next Sunday.

While we may be a little tired to enjoy the arrival of spring today due to one less hour of sleep, by next Sunday we all should ready for the official kickoff of spring.

Counting down to the end of winter. Pay attention spring comes quickly over the next couple of weeks.

This Tuesday is Mardi Gras - the day before Ash Wednesday and the signaling of spring.

Wednesday is Ash Wednesday - the beginning of Lent. After 40 days we have Easter. Easter is the latest it can be, falling on the last Sunday in April, but the fact that we are entering the Easter season or Lent is a sign of spring.

One week from today - next Saturday - we end standard time (except people in Arizona and Hawaii) and set our clocks ahead an hour - definitely a sign of spring.

Then two weeks from tomorrow - March 20th is the vernal equinox - the official beginning of spring on the calendar.

If you're looking for signs that spring is close, there you are.
