If you are new to AR and joined because a friend or colleague suggested it to you or specifically invited you, welcome to the neighborhood. The first step in joining is the free basic subscription. This will serve you well, and many people choose to leave it at that. Others choose to add the Rainmaker account so that their posts will be visible to the world.
If you're not ready to step up to Rainmaker status or aren't sure if you really need to, let me give you a few benefits for staying at the basic free member status.
(1) You have access to the entire North American network. You can post to "Members Only" which is this vast network. You can read the posts from any of the members. You can comment on posts, and you can receive comments on your posts. You just can't post to the world.
(2) When you enter your name, phone number, email mail address, and basic contact information to set-up your account, this is visible to and indexable by Google - not your profile, just your contact information. Still, many people feel their is no value to joining if they can't justify a Rainmaker account or can't publish blogs on a regular basis. Google cares.
(3) When you accumulate 5,000 points - not really all that hard to do - Google indexes your profile also - no matter what else you do on the network. Upload an HD headshot for 1,080 points. Fill out your profile for a couple thousand points (based on word count and other factors). Comment on other people's blogs for 25 points per comment up to 10 a day. Post a blog in "Members Only" for 250 per post up to 10 per week. See, not hard at all to get 5,000 points.
(4) Along the way, you're going to start making some friendships. You can decide to stay participating at the basic "Members Only" level or you can decide to upgrade to the "Rainmaker" status and begin attracting leads from the general public who will then see your posts.
Google likes you right from the start and so does the rest of your AR community. Thanks for joining and participating.
