Steve Hoffacker's Sales Quips

Active Rain enjoys a very strong search engine presence. It currently is rated #4067 on Alexa - an international website rating service of all the tens of millions of sites and blogs on the internet. Just by being on Active Rain, we have that additional power. Most of our own websites rank in the high 7 figures or higher.

Well, in addition to being seen and ranking higher by virtue of the tremendous online activity, an AR presence helps with our SERPs (search engine results page) or organic search.

Just a little while ago I did a Google serach for "real estate sales trainer" and got 144,000,000 results - a pretty large number.

Would you believe that my Active Rain profile came up #3?!

It also came up high on Yahoo, but not this high.

Don't take your AR presence and participation lightly!

I don't know if this is a permanent change or just temporary - maybe someone can elaborate - but the posting time for AR has moved from eastern time to pacific time - a 3 hour time difference.

This will certainly give those of us not on the west coast extra time to get our posts and comments done, but it gives an inaccurate idea of when the posting occurs. It's possible for me to post on a current event as it's happening or soon thereafter - and have the time stamp a couple of hours before it ever occurred.

It is approximately 3:40 pm eastern time as I am writing this, but the timestamp on the post will say that I wrote it at 12:40 pm.

And who said we couldn't make time stand still?

Last night's update - I assume this had something to do with it since I haven't noticed this before - has made a big difference. Comments are posting and loading at a noticeably faster pace. Searching and finding posts is faster as well. Keep it up AR. This is positive progress.

I posted earlier in the week about the "Sorry, that content is protected" message - whatever that means.

Many people were experiencing this meddlesome message - some more than others. It was reported to have gone away. At any rate it is back more than ever.

It is on this post that I am writing now, even as I am composing it - funny that my content is protected before there even is content. Now, that's proactive protection!

It is annoying and even nonsensical. Consider what it could possibly mean at the top of my groups page:

I've run across this message - "Sorry, that content is protected" - a few times the last couple of days when I was reading an AR post. It doesn't seem to matter whether it's a "Members Only" or makerd for "Reblog." It's not on every post - just some. I even had it appear on one of my posts yesterday that I was editting.

Here's what appears at the top of the post just over the title:

Anyone know what this is, what it means, and why it's appearing?

Today, in addition to the new AR layout that we were greeted with this morning, Direct TV made a similar change to their layout.

If you don't have Direct TV it won't matter. If you do, then you know what I'm talking about.

Interesting that both changes were made the same day and both have a similar look and purpose.

I had to load the AR home page a couple of times. I thought it wasn't loading correctly. Wow, a brand new look.

It's a cleaner look and expanded left-right. Not all of it fits on the screen.

The details that people need are up front and very visible.

As I look at the Active Rain leaderboard, I see 53 people who already have 800,000 or more points, and several more who are approaching that mark.

There already are 23 at the million point level and above. So we are poised to more than double the millionaire point club in 2012.

This means more posts, more interaction, more relationships, more connections, and more business.

Look and feel like a million in 2012 - at least on the Leaderboard.

Whether it's a computer virus that causing AR to randoming reissue notifications about comments from a few days ago to over a year ago, or whether is a virus like the flu, AR is still very much under the weather.

I reported yesterday on 39 messages I had received, and many of you echoed that experience.

SInce the post, I got another 21 last night before midnight and another 21 this morning so far.

Whatever the source of the ailment, I hope the doctor has been called.

Active Rain is apparently suffering from reflux today. So far - and the day is far from over - I have received email notification of 39 comments that are 2-3 weeks old that I have already read and commented on.
