You Ought To Give Iowa A Try

I love that song from the "Music Man" - "You Ought To Give Iowa A Try." That seems to sum up what has been going on the past several months with many a Republican hopeful testing the waters and attitudes of Iowans.

Tonight is the caucus - the first vote of the 2012 election season.

I liken this to a NASCAR race. Someone has already announced "Lady and Gentlemen Start Your Engines." Now they are in the parade lap. Tonight's vote is important but not representative of the entire electorate. They are still scrubbing their tires and jockeying for a strategic start. That comes next week in New Hampshire - when the green flag will have dropped.

We'll likely know the "presumptive" Republican nominee in just a few weeks as a frontrunner vote-getter emerges.

After all, the election is just 10 months from today.
