Groundhog Day Is Coming

Groundhog Day is coming - no not the movie although I think it would be nice to have some do-over days every so often.

Wednesday is Groundhog Day - 6 more weeks of winter. The groundhog will see his shadow - just a prediction, but how can he not see it? With all of those TV and video lights shining on him, he will see his shadow.

Thus, we have 6 more weeks of winter, The end is in sight. Signs of spring will begin emerging. Buds, robins, an occasional warm day, thaws, baseball, and other signs of spring.

Spring is coming.

Fran's Friday Forum...Too Much Talk...!!!

We worry so often about saying just the right things and with having our presentation just-so, but often it's just having a real conversation with someone - that includes intensive listening - that makes the difference.

Via Fran 'The Title Man' Gaspari Title Insurance-PA & NJ (Patriot Land Transfer, Inc.):

Sometimes it's not what we say that is most meaningful, but how we act...!!!

Over the years I have tried hard to become a good listener...

Yes, I sensed early on that I was guilty of faulty communication...I would be thinking of what I was going to say next, rather than listening to what was being said...

When I learned that it was not so important what a person says, but rather the way they act, it became easier to be a good listener, because then I didn't invite the stress of having to perform by saying ‘just the right words'...

It is something that takes a lot of practice, but when improved becomes very worthwhile...

Practice listening this weekend...It will be worth the effort...

Have a great weekend...!!!

Another Month Begins

Just four weeks ago today, we all were celebrating the arrival of 2011 with big hopes and dreams for the new year.

Now we are saying goodbye to the first month - it doesn't take long for time to go by. The older we get, the quicker it seems to go.

So how did the first month go? Do we need to make any adjustments?

This week that we are embarking on now is a different kind of one. Technically we still have 2 days of January, but it really seems like we are already in February.

February is the shortest month of the year so we will to make extra sure that we account for out time well.

SILENT SATURDAY... HOW MUCH SNOW IS TOO MUCH???

Valerie has the right idea for a "Silent Saturday" post - one that needs no words and is hilarious - if you don't have to be out in it. Here in Florida, I can really get a good chuckle out of this one.

January Slips Away

The month of January, the first of 2011, essentially came to a close today.

While the month doesn't officially end until Monday night, we tend to think of a business month as consisting of 4 full weeks or 28 days even though 11 of them have more than 28 days.

And today marks the end of the 4th full week of January - essentially of first month of 2011.

I hope the year has gotten off to a good start for everyone.

Onward to February!

Happy Buyer Says "Don't be Afraid of Updating an Older Home"!

Silvia shares a success story of what happened with a buyer of a modestly priced older home to turn into a modern one - with some creativity and paint.

Via Silvia Dukes, CIPS, TRC, SFR, AHWD, Ich spreche Deutsch! (Tropic Shores Realty, Spring Hill/Hernando Beach, Florida):

Kitchen Remodel Before Happy Buyer Says "Don't be Afraid of Updating an Older Home"!

Today I had the opportunity to visit with one of my customers I had worked with last year who had bought an older home.

This older Spring Hill home that had sold for only $72,000 had been built in 1994 and was in basically good condition but needed some updating.  Except for carpeting, everything in the home was original.

From the moment, my buyer had set foot into the house however, she felt right at home.  And she had a vision!  She made quite a few changes such as updating the bathrooms with new vanities and cabinets, and replacing the kitchen and bathroom flooring with tile.

The kitchen was brought it into the new millenium by wisely choosing which features would be changed.  The countertops which previously had been a "stylish 90's pink" were replaced with black granite and the kitchen light fixture now features a fan in a finished ceiling recess.

You wouldn't know it but the kitchen cabinets are still the original cabinets with a completely new look.   She finished them off with modern hardware and also brought in all new black appliances.

While almost all of these updates were cosmetic changes at a moderate cost, these updates and remodeling efforts have made a big impact!

What a great job!

We Achieve Success One Step at the Time

This is such an appropriate post by Lou Ludwig because he published his 2,000th post on Active Rain this week - talk about climbing the ladder one at a time. Congratulations, Lou!

Via Lou Ludwig CRB, CRS, CIPS, GRI, SRES, TRC, e-PRO, (Ludwig & Associates):

Motivational Power Quote

We Achieve Success One Step at the Time

"One only gets to the top rung of the ladder

by steadily climbing up one at a time."

Margaret Thatcher, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

As I see it. . . . . . . .

We achieve success one step at the time

Success is not an overnight event. Success is achieved by steadily putting one foot in front of another taking one step at time with conviction in the direction of your goals.

Some of our steps will be longer then other and the pace may quicken and other times it will seem to slow. But the one thing that remains consistent  is we have to steadily put one foot in foot of the other a continue to step in the direction of our goals.

It will take perseverance to navigate the turbulence that we encounter is our quest to succeed.   But we achieve success one step at the time when we headed in the right direction.
